This piece was a reminder to me that even when the chaos of the world surrounds us, we can still be set apart from it. We don't need to be consumed or immersed in it. The gold on the wings is a statement that you are precious, you are unique and desirable. Swallows mate for life and return to the exact same nests year after year, and in the context of this painting it shows this gilded , precious bird, returning home to its safe place, its nest and family. This piece was created to complement my other painting ‘’set apart’’. The world is a little further away in this scene and the flight is smooth and straight. There is still the aspect of being set apart, not letting the burdens of the world drag us down in this scene.
